The Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB) of Vadodara city on Friday arrested the owner of a fabrication company in Makarpura GIDC for allegedly hoarding illegal Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in his premises.
The PCB, which raided the premises late Thursday, seized IMFL worth Rs 5.06 lakh.
PCB Inspector S D Ratada said acting on a tip-off, the unit raided Varun Industries in GIDC and discovered several boxes of IMFL.
"PCB Head Constable Rajendrasinh Bhimsinh had received a tip-off that a tempo has offloaded IMFL in the office of Varun Industries, located in GIDC Makarpura... it has been involved in illegal sale of liquor in the guise of a fabrication unit. The premises were raided and a stash of liquor recovered," he added.
Cops seized 1,589 bottles of whiskey, vodka and beer. While owner Vinu Rathod was arrested on Friday, a man named Dharmesh from Silvassa, the driver of the van that offloaded the liquor and four unidentified labourers were booked under the Prohibition Act. Rathod, who complained of uneasiness during the raid, was taken to a hospital before arrest.
