DUBAI: Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored a quickfire 81 in the run chase and powered home side Dubai Capitals to a dominating seven-wicket victory over MI Emirates in the second match of the ILT20 on Saturday.
Put into bat first, MI Emirates could only register 159/9 in the allotted 20 overs despite Muhammad Waseem’s brisk half-century up the order.
Waseem stitched a crucial second-wicket partnership with Andre Fletcher and recovered the Emirates from a dismal position when they were 7/1 in the second over.
The duo added 72 runs amid their sensational partnership, which lasted in the seventh over when Akif Raja removed Fletcher.
He scored 30 off just 18 deliveries with the help of three boundaries and two sixes.
Waseem then joined forces with skipper Nicholas Pooran for a 24-run partnership but faltered after amassing his magnificent half-century.

He remained the top-scorer for the Emirates with 51 in a mere 26 balls, laced up with two boundaries and four sixes.
MI Emirates lost their way after Waseem’s dismissal and began to lose wickets at regular intervals which halted the flow of runs.
Dubai Capitals’ bowling attack, led by Sikandar Raza and Jason Holder, who took three each, eventually managed to restrict them to a modest total.
In reply, the Capitals comfortably chased down the 160-run target for the loss of just three wickets and 24 balls to spare.
The hosts, however, had a contrasting start to the pursuit as their opener David Warner (1) fell victim to Trent Boult in the third over with just 15 on the board.
Jake Fraser-McGurk then joined Rahmanullah Gurbaz at the crease and the pair put Dubai Capials in touching distance to their first victory in the ongoing ILT20.

They added 114 runs for the second wicket with both scoring half-centuries.
Fraser-McGurk perished in the 11th when he fired Trent Boult’s delivery straight to Corey Anderson at long-off. He smashed four boundaries and as many sixes on his way to a 25-ball 54.
Gurbaz fell 10 balls later when the Capitals needed a mere 20 runs in 46 deliveries.
He remained the top-scorer for the hosts with a belligerent 81 off 39 deliveries, peppered with eight boundaries and four sixes.
Sam Billings (13*) and Rovman Powell (7*) gave the final touches to the run chase and steered their side to glory in 16 overs.
Trent Boult bagged two wickets for the Emirates while Farooqi could pick up a wicket.
